Attorneys in Early Modern England and Wales           Litigiousness in Early Modern England

The Database for This Article

The database includes extensive notes on all 30,451 enrollments in common pleas in Trinity term of 1607 and, for comparison, also in Trinity term of 1563. Likewise, for 1607, I have indexed the court of king's bench for Trinity term, the exchequer, and the Welsh county courts. The notes on the court of common pleas of Trinity term 1607 took about fourteen weeks in the archives; I am still in process of refining that data.

Also included are the attorney warrant rolls from Trinity 1607 up to 1609, exigent orders from Hilary and Easter terms of 1607, and attorney warrant rolls from various terms between 1563 and 1607. While the database is still expanding and being refined, the material in it for 1607 is far more extensive than Brooks was able to assemble for his base year of 1606.
